- “Theory Versus Reality: The Dirty Hydrogen Story” • Not all hydrogen is clean. According to a report in the New York Times, a peer-reviewed study by researchers at Cornell and Stanford finds that most hydrogen used today is extracted from natural gas in a process that requires a lot of energy and emits vast amounts of carbon dioxide. - “Energy Giant’s $2.06 Billion Loss Labeled A ‘Titanic’ Failure” • Australia’s largest energy retailer, AGL, has blamed an “extremely challenging market,” prompted in part by the ongoing growth of renewables, including rooftop solar PV, after reporting a $2.06 billion full-year net loss. - “New Jersey’s Largest Energy Company Sells Off Fossil-Fuel Plants” • Public Service Enterprise Group announced that it has agreed to sell its fleet of 13 fossil-fuel plants for $1.92 billion to a Boston-based private equity company that focuses on energy infrastructure investments.
