Here’s what to do with them!

Color in the treetops will soon be crunching underfoot as foliage season gives way to raking season, which coincides with putting-the-garden-to-bed season. What to do with all your non-woody leaf, yard, and garden debris? Read on:

NOTE: Non-woody leaf, garden, and yard debris includes leaves, grass clippings, and plant material; small twigs OK as long as they’re no bigger around than a pencil. No rocks, sod, pumpkins, trash, etc.

CSWD Drop-Off Centers
 Accepted free at all locations (Burlington, Essex, Hinesburg, Milton, Richmond, South Burlington, and Williston). Note: Williston is the nly DOC that allows dumping mechanisms.
Special Sunday hours for LEAVES ONLYEssex and South Burlington DOCs: Nov. 3 & Nov. 10, 8am-4pm.

Green Mountain Compost (1042 Redmond Rd., Williston)
Special Saturday hours through Nov. 9: Mon-Sat 8-4
Special Sunday hours for leaves only: Nov. 3 & Nov. 10, 8-4
Beginning Nov. 11: Winter hours in effect, Mon-Fri 8-4
Dumping mechanisms allowed.

McNeil Wood & Yard Waste Depot (111 Intervale Rd., Burlington): Up to 6 cubic yards. Dumping mechanisms allowed.
Special Monday hours for leaves only Oct. 28, Nov. 4 &  Nov. 11: Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri, Sat 8-4.
Closed Sunday and Wednesday.
Beginning Nov. 18: Winter hours in effect, Tue-Fri 8-12; Sat 8-3:30

Burlington curbside leaf pickup: From Monday, Nov. 18 to Friday, Nov. 22, residents may leave leaves in compostable bags (no plastic!) at the curb by 7am on your recycling day if you have regular recycling pickup. Burlington Public Works will come by and take them away. Click here for restrictions and specifications.

Colchester residents may bring leaves to Airport Park (off Colchester Point Road in the Malletts Bay area) Nov. 2 & 3, 8am-4pm. Leaves may be loose or in compostable paper bags. No plastic bags. Click here for full details.

Dumping mechanisms: Allowed only at the Williston DOC, Green Mountain Compost, and McNeil Wood & Yard Waste Depot.
