Sun and Fun Community Celebration at SCC

We invite everyone to a community celebration of solar, sustainability, and the environment. There will be food, live music, kids activities, and displays by many local non-profits, environmental groups, and environment friendly groups as well as various groups who meet at Second Congregational Church.

Bennington, VT Saturday, August 22 from 10-3 pm – Second Congregational Church, UCC located in Bennington at 115 Hillside Street is hosting Sun and Fun!, a community celebration of the environment, solar, and sustainability. SCC, a Green Justice Congregation, recently had solar installed on their roof and are hosting this event so that people can see and learn about solar power as well as other sustainable and environmentally friendly topics.

There will be live music, food, and numerous kids activities including face painting and s’mores made in solar ovens. There will also be opportunities to visit displays by various solar companies, non-profit companies, and environmentally friendly vendors. Some of the groups attending include Solar Pro, Green Mountain Club, One World Conservation Center, and 350VT. There will also be lectures, films, and educational material available on the environment, recycling, and composting.

SCC also serves a meeting place for many local groups such as the Bennington Children’s Chorus, Quiet Valley Quilters, Creative Dance, NA, AA, Grief support, Poverty Work Group, Child Advocacy, Headstart, the Association for the Visually Impaired, Turning Point, and more. These and other groups have been invited to have displays as part of the celebration.

The event will be held rain or shine. There will be a calm space available for any children needing one during the day.
