Happy Birthday Monadnock Food Co-op: 5 Years and Growing!

Monadnock LogoKEENE, NH – The Monadnock Food Co-op is celebrating its 5th birthday with a day-long event on Sunday, April 8. Hundreds of volunteers worked for several years to bring this community-owned marketplace to life, opening its doors in April, 2013. Now with over three thousand member-owners and hopeful plans to expand into the vacant lot to the East of the current store, the Co-op’s staff and board want to invite the whole community to the party.

Local suppliers like The Bread Shed, Saxy Chef, Drew’s Organics, Jack’s Crackers, and Jamtastic will be offering samples throughout the day. Members of the co-op’s Board of Directors will be cutting cake and talking about the proposed expansion from Noon until 2 pm, there will be giveaways, music from students at Monadnock Waldorf School, flash sales throughout the store and more! This event is free and open to the public.

“It is incredible what we have collectively been able to accomplish in the past five years,” said Michael Faber, General Manager of the Co-op. “We have quadrupled our local sales since opening, distributed almost $25 thousand in Farm Fund grants to local farmers, and given hundreds of donations to community organizations. We look forward to all the good we can do in the next five!”

This celebration is a way to thank the support and patronage of all of the Co-op’s member-owners and customers over the past five years. Without this community’s loyal support and enthusiasm, this downtown marketplace could not have grown to be a model among co-ops nationwide.
