Through the two successful Solarize Norwich campaigns in 2012 and 2013, total residential solar in Norwich has grown from about 143 kW to 267 kW — close to doubling! How about topping 400 kW in 2014?
The Norwich Energy Committee launches 2014 Solarize Norwich on Wednesday, February 12, with an information session for town residents at 7 pm in the multipurpose room at the Marion Cross School. (We’ll define “kW” for you there!)
Once again we are working with two Norwich-based firms, Norwich Technologies and Solaflect. Each company has focused on reducing the costs related to the support/mounting structures for, respectively, roof- or ground-mounted fixed and pole-mounted tracking solar systems. Depending on your site, at least one of these systems is likely to be a good match.
The NEC will provide information on the larger energy context and how it works to have a residential net-metered system. A panel of current solar homeowners will share their experiences, and Norwich Technologies and Solaflect will describe the economic and environmental benefits of solar panels, the incentives involved, and the details of their systems.
In addition, we will outline a community solar option suitable for renters or homeowners with shaded sites.
