The Big Picture on Heating:

The Census Bureau has updated its 5-year tables for the American Community Survey.to include 2019 data. This update includes Table B25040 which estimates Heating Fuel usage in American homes at various levels of aggregation. The Census Bureau also updated their interface earlier this year, and these tables are much easier to access and customize than they have been in the past. Some commonly used views include:
National
New York State
New York State by County
Below, NY-GEO member Bob Wyman shows the new data for the US compared to New York State, in both units and percentages. As you’ll see, oil use in New York is more than 4 times higher than in the rest of the country and our use of electric heating (which includes heat pumps) is only about one-third of that for the rest of the country. it appears that New York has about 26.6% of all the oil-heated homes in the entire USA… So, any success we have in reducing in-state oil consumption will have a big impact on the national numbers.
