PBS News Hour: 8-Minute Feature on Heat Pumps – “U.S. emissions fell during the height of the pandemic as people were stuck at home, but that changed as the pandemic eased. Many researchers, scientists and lawmakers argue that Americans need to reduce their use of fossil fuels much sooner than they may have planned. Miles O’Brien reports on an alternative for home heating that could reduce the use and costs of fossil fuels.” The segment features Dandelion Energy’s President Kathy Hannun waxing eloquent on geothermal heating and cooling as well as contractor Al Lopez from Green Team Long Island showcasing his company’s air source installations on Long Island. Transcript and video here.

All-Electric Schools for the Benefit of Students – RMI released a new report with partner UndauntedK12, titled HVAC Choices for Student Health and Learning. The report shares big ideas relating to school HVAC technology, details six benefits of all-electric, high-performance HVAC systems, and offers a framework for evaluating costs and obtaining funding. This report recognizes the opportunity for GSHP for schools with the new provisions of the IRA, “The IRA offers school districts financial support for up to 50% of the cost of ground-source heat pumps (GSHPs) and other clean energy technologies like solar power and energy storage.” Thanks to Yu Ann Tan of RMI for this tip. Report website here. It’s worth a look!

Gas Leaks Releases Video on Hydrogen Heating Dangers – Gas “utilities around the country are beginning to blend (hydrogen) into their pipeline systems. Studies show that hydrogen is more prone to leaks and explosions than methane gas. The gas system already sees deadly explosions with startling regularity — adding hydrogen risks (makes) it even more dangerous, especially compared to cleaner, safer all-electric appliances.” 30 second video here
