Gov. Hochul announces building decarb pilot w/NYC –“Pilot Program Investments Expected to Support Upgrades in Approximately 1,200 Living Units of Affordable Housing and Benefit 3,000 Low-to-moderate Income Residents… – Governor Kathy Hochul today announced an agreement between the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development to partner on a $24 million pilot program to fund electrification activities in affordable housing. In addition, the Pilot will create a streamlined funding process, by which affordable housing owners can access NYSERDA incentives without additional administrative work…The pilot will provide gap funding to cover the incremental costs of …transitioning from fossil-fuel based heating and cooling to highly efficient heat pump technology, thereby increasing energy efficiency, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and providing superior indoor environmental quality. “ Press release here.
Vermont “Graduates” to $2,100 per Ton Geothermal Incentives – by David Thill, Energy News Network – “’In some ways, we’ve graduated to this’ from the more common air-source heat pumps,” said Jake Marin, HVAC program manager at Efficiency Vermont. “He described ground-source heat pumps as a ‘premium system’ — ‘somewhat complex, but they do provide the most benefits for customers.’ Given the state’s increased focus on building electrification, he said, officials at Efficiency Vermont wanted to help spur supply chains and increase uptake… he’s received multiple calls each day from interested potential customers since the new incentives were launched. That includes residential and business customers, who can also get rebates through the new program, though at a more modest amount for bigger systems.” Article here.
IGSHPA – Adventures of Iggy Coloring Book – IGSHPA is developing a curriculum to give elementary school students an understanding of geothermal technology. Currently, we have available a coloring book, “The Adventures of Iggy” to explain how the systems work. Teachers may download a free copy, and they have permission to photocopy it for use in their classrooms.
