Neil Young posts song ‘Who’s Gonna Stand Up?’ with 92-piece orchestra

Neil Young has posted three completely different versions of his new song “Who’s Gonna Stand Up?”, including one with a 92-piece orchestra and choir. The legendary Canuck singer-songwriter began performing the song on tour over the summer and initially released a live version earlier this month recorded with Crazy Horse during a July 13 show in Liverpool, England at the Echo Arena.

The eclectic two-time Grammy winner posted the three versions Sept. 20 to his official website at Fans can select between audio tracks for a stripped down 3:49 minute acoustic version; a hard rocking 5:49 minute remastered version recorded live with Crazy Horse; and a sweeping 4:22 minute orchestral version. Each version leaves its own sonic and emotional imprint, and will be “must-haves” for fans.

The politically charged protest song features anti-fracking lyrics, with Young and his backing singers asking “who’s gonna stand up and save the earth?” Along with the audio tracks, the Farm Aid and Bridge School Benefit co-founder posted a statement with the three-track offering, writing:

I’m giving you permission to please use this music in videos, clips and communications, or in any way you see fit during this critical time. I hope this music can assist you in the important work we do to reach out for understanding and action in the world.”

The “Heart of Gold” hitmaker has been in the studio with an orchestra recording a new album titled Storytone. The two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will join co-headliners Pearl Jam, Florence + The Machine and Soundgarden at the 28th annual Bridge School Benefit, which will be held Oct. 25-26 in Mountain View, Calif., at Shoreline Amphitheatre.
