Energy Organizations Team Up for Door-to-Door Campaign in Rutland

June 23, 2014 – Rutland, VT – Three organizations are joining efforts to help Rutland residents lower their energy costs this summer. Efficiency Vermont, Green Mountain Power (GMP), and Neighbor Works of Western Vermont H.E.A.T. Squad are teaming up to knock on every door in the City to reach out to Rutland City residents, answer their energy questions, and connect them with opportunities to lower their energy costs. The goal is to reach out to over 7,000 households by September.

“This is an exciting initiative to help empower Rutland residents to save money,” said Mary Powell, President and CEO of Green Mountain Power. “Each of our organizations has complementary information and expertise, which is why we’re working together to deliver a one-stop-shop energy resource for Rutland. We’ll give them information about the easy first steps they can make to take control of their energy use. ”

“The NeighborWorks H.E.A.T. Squad, working with these same partners for the past three years, has already helped more than 800 Rutland County residents improve the efficiency of their homes resulting in an average savings of $1,000 per home, per year in heating costs,” explains Ludy Biddle, director of NeighborWorks.

The initiative will include information on how Rutland residents can track and reduce their electrical usage and cut their cooling and heating expenses. Residents will also be able to access free kits from Efficiency Vermont containing efficient light bulbs, an advanced power strip, and other easy-to-install energy-saving products.

“This project is all about meeting Rutland residents where they are at,” said Jim Merriam, Director of Efficiency Vermont. “We are really excited to collaborate with GMP and H.E.A.T. Squad to answer questions, and help connect people with energy-saving products that will reduce their costs every month.”

Efficiency Vermont, GMP, and H.E.A.T. Squad all reside in Rutland’s Energy Innovation Center. This LEED certified building houses many renewable energy exhibits and Vermont innovators working towards reducing Vermont’s carbon footprint and bring leading edge technology to the state.
