First Wind’s annual Community Report details Sheffield, VT philanthropic activity

first windToday, First Wind released its annual Community Report that includes highlights of the company’s philanthropic activity to its project host communities in 2013. Through three focused areas of giving – community and civic, environment and recreation, and education – First Wind committed more than $520,000 in support and donations to host communities in the Northeast, the West and Hawaii.

In 2013 alone, First Wind was able to award 16 scholarships to students through its First Wind Scholars program, and supported 43 projects at 31 schools to benefit about 2,600 students through its partnership with First Wind also sponsored over 125 local causes within host communities in 2013, and unveiled two bird enclosures near its Kaheawa Wind projects in Hawaii. Along with its civic commitment, First Wind’s entire fleet generated approximately 2 million megawatt hours (MWh) of clean, renewable energy in 2013, which has the capacity to power nearly 300,000 homes annually.
