Saturday: floating protest to keep New England tar sands free

Exxon wants to pump tar sands oil through New England through decades old pipe — and perilously close to Sebago Lake, among other sources of clean fresh water for our region.

And so on Saturday, the Sebago Lake Flotilla will take to the lake to protest putting tar sands through our communities. The 350 Maine Tar Sands Team has been in full swing taking care of the final details — we’ve been out to the park numerous times this past week, working with park officials to make sure everything runs smoothly, and finalizing bus transportation, facilitators for activities, musical and speaker lineups, and much much more.

Speakers will include New England’s own Bill McKibben, and our main music feature will be our friends Melodeego. We’ll finalize the speaker list very soon, but you won’t want to miss any of them — click here to RSVP for the action:

A few important updates to keep in mind:

  • We’ve updated our website with new details, including information about everything from what to bring to where to park to our schedule of events.. You can check out all the newly updated info about Saturday’s activities here:
  • Sebago Lake State Park is very busy on the weekends. The park is opening an hour earlier than usual to accommodate our increased traffic, but even so we are recommending that people arrive as early as 7AM to ensure you can get in the park in a timely manner.
  • We recognize that for those of you traveling from a distance, an early arrival might be somewhat of a challenge. In response to that, check out our Lodging Options page here:

The week after, on Sunday July 28th, please check out our plans to join friends and allies from across the region as we aim to shut down the Brayton Point Coal Plant in Massachusetts — New England’s single largest source of carbon pollution. Click here for information about the action at Brayton Point, with more details to follow in the coming days:

Have a wonderful week, and see you all at Sebago Lake on Saturday!

Chloe and the 350 Maine Team

P.S. – Vermonters, there are buses heading down to Brayton Point for the action on the 28th, and seats are still available. Get your tickets for the Vermont bus to shut down Brayton Point here:
