The Sustainability Project’s 8th Annual Seed Celebration and Sustainable Community Fair takes place on February 16th, 2013, from 9am-4pm, at the Keene State College Science Center. This family-focused community event offers an opportunity to get a jump on the 2013 growing season, stock up on seeds, and learn about local food, farm, environmental and sustainable community initiatives. There will be children’s activities and more than 20 workshops and presentations throughout the day. Over the years, farmers, gardeners and activists working for sustainable communities have come to know this event as a great opportunity for networking.
Attendees leave with a toolbox of sustainable skills, from herbalism to visualizing one’s way to the right livelihood, to communicating from the heart, or learning about beekeeping, bio-char, composting, gardening, vermiculture, mycological landscaping or permaculture design.
“You can also learn about solar basics for the home, farm and business, or become aware of the pitfalls of GMO technology,” said Valerie Piedmont, Executive Director of The Sustainability Project. “Representatives from local non-profits will be on hand, eager to share their stories and to invite you be part of their success. Vender tables will enable you to ‘buy local.’
The Master Gardeners will be on hand to help you plan your garden and answer your gardening questions. Or, you can design your garden with FEDCO seeds that will be on sale. If you are a seed saver with a surplus, this is an opportunity to swap and share.
You can also enjoy soups, baked goods and beverages at our café and help wrap up the day with a concert by The VanBurens, a Boston-based progressive funk, rock dance band,” she added.
