Socially Responsible Businesses to Gather

 Tuesday, May 15th at UVM’s Davis Center

Burlington, VT – Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR) announced that it will hold its 22nd Annual Spring Conference on Tuesday, May 15 at the University of Vermont’s Davis Center. The Spring Conference, one of the largest annual gatherings of socially responsible businesses in the country, is charged with “Creating Pathways for Vermont’s Next Business Generation.”

Ellen McCulloch-Lovell, President of Marlboro College will addresses the group at 8:45 a.m. to kick off the conference and John Replogle, President and CEO of Seventh Generation will speak during the lunch hour.

Thirteen workshops are being offered by some of the states most admired and innovative companies, on topics including adaptive businesses, for-profit and non-profit collaboration, multiple bottom-line businesses, employee engagement, green marketing and socially responsible practices.  The Honorable Governor Peter Shumlin will offer closing remarks.

The conference is typically attended by over 350 of Vermont’s business and educational leaders and offers opportunities to connect and network. City Market/Onion River Co-Op will provide a light breakfast, and the 2012 Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence and a Vermont themed cocktail reception, sponsored by Native Energy will begin at 4:30 pm.

Registration on or before May 8 is $140 for VBSR members and $190 for non-members. Rates for registration after May 8 are $165 and $215, respectively. Students can take advantage of a discounted rate of $25.

Preceding the conference, the 9th Annual Terry Ehrich Awards Reception will be held at the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center on Monday evening from 6:00-8:30 p.m.  Allison Hooper of Vermont Butter & Cheese Creamery will be on hand as this year’s recipient. Tickets for the Terry Ehrich Awards Reception are $60 and include plentiful hors d’oeuvres, delicious desserts, and a cash bar.  More information is available at:

The Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR) is a non-profit, statewide business organization with a mission to advance business ethics that value multiple bottom lines – economic, social and environmental.  It strives to help members set a high standard for protecting the natural, human and economic environments of the state’s residents, while still remaining profitable.

Founded in 1990 by a group of business people who believed businesses have as much responsibility to workers, communities and the environment as they do to being financially successful, VBSR is the oldest and largest regional association of values-led businesses in the country.  It has over 1,200 members, which collectively employ 13% of the state’s workforce.
