Putney Food Co-op Celebrates 70 years of Service

Join us for a day of food and fun, featuring live music with Simba

PutneyFounded in 1941, during the supply shortages caused by WWII, the Putney Co-op is one of the oldest co-ops in the country.

This year, we are celebrating our long and rich history with two days of events, on Friday, September 30th and Saturday, October 1st.

Friday evening, 9/30:

  • Join us at Next Stage Cinema in Putney at 5:00 pm for a special screening of “The Fish Belong to the People.” This documentary film tells the story of our cooperative partners, Port Clyde Fresh Catch, and the creation of their Maine fishing co-op. The captains from Port Clyde will be on hand for an audience Q&A session at the end of the film.  The film is free, with donations accepted to benefit Next Stage Performing Arts. (www.nextstagearts.org)
  • After the film, head down to the Putney Community Center for dinner and dancing!
  • Our menu will feature hake and Jonah crab fresh from Port Clyde, locally harvested fall vegetables and Louisiana bread pudding for dessert.
  • A cash bar will be available for guests over 21 years old.
  • Tickets to the dinner are $15 and can be purchased at the Putney Co-op. Seating is limited to 100, so buy your tickets early! Dinner starts at 6:30.

We’ll have live music with Planet Zydeco, and the dancing will last well into the evening! (The music and dancing are free and open to the public.)

Saturday, October 1st:

  • The outdoor party opens at 11:00 am with a live performance by Sandglass Theater at the main stage.
  • Kyla Koske and the Co-op All-Stars take the stage at noon, followed by a cake cutting ceremony with special guest speakers at 2:00.
  • The street fair-style party will last all day, until 5:00 pm, and will feature kids’ activities, amazing food vendors, and booths from our cooperative vendors and partners.
  • The day will culminate with a live performance by Simba from 3-5 pm.

The full schedule of events can be found at our website, www.putneyfood.coop.

And after the party, don’t forget to head up to Westminster West for the NOFA-VT 40th Anniversary Celebration at High Meadows Farm.  More info is at www.nofavt.org.

October 1st will be a day to remember in Putney—don’t miss it!
