Sanders will be joined at the meeting by Jonathan Adelstein, administrator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service. Adelstein previously served for nearly seven years as a member of the Federal Communications Commission.

Also attending will be Michel Guite, president of Vermont Telephone Company of Springfield, Vt. which has committed to providing wireless, high-speed broadband to residents in each of Vermont’s unserved areas. This project is a significant part of the $172 million in federal grants and loans Vermont has been awarded to move forward in providing access to affordable broadband service throughout the state.

Sanders believes that affordable broadband access is key to economic growth in Vermont’s future. While he welcomes the substantial federal investment in the state, he believes federally-funded efforts must provide affordable access to broadband and be done in a timely and transparent manner.
