Alamosa Photovoltaic Plant. An 82-acre tract in south central Colorado, near the New Mexico border, is the site for one of the largest photovoltaic power plants in the United States. The Alamosa Photovoltaic Plant, which went on-line in December 2007, and generates about 8.2 megawatts of power using Suntech solar modules. SunEdison built, owns and will maintain the Alamosa plant and Xcel Energy will purchase the power generated by the plant.
NREL rates the San Luis Valley, where the plant is located, as having the best available resource for solar power conditions in Colorado.
