Chittenden County: Storm cleanup: Where to get rid of branches, trees, and other natural wood

Cut downed trees to the size limit, and keep wood separate from leaves and other yard debris.

The storm system that blew through Vermont last night left many Chittenden County backyards and neighborhoods strewn with woody debris, from branches to entire trees. It also left local residents with the task of finding a way to get rid of them.

Fortunately, there are a number of local drop-off facilities that accept natural wood. But before you start piling downed trees and branches into your truck bed, there are a few things to keep in mind.
  1. Keep wood separate from leaves & yard debris
Wood and leaves are often accepted at the same facilities, but they must be dropped off separately. (They are taken to different destinations.) Shorten your trip time by separating wood and leaves before you arrive.
  2. Make sure your wood is under the size requirements
The maximum length for branches & tree trunks is 6 feet, with a maximum diameter of 24 inches. If the wood in your yard exceeds these dimensions, cut it down to size before you load up.
  3. Make sure your load isn’t too big for the facility
Each facility has different space availability, and a different limit on the amount of wood accepted. (See the facility list below.)
When you’re ready, bring your wood to any of the following facilities. Don’t forget to check the quantity limits before you go.
