We thought you might like to see this photo. It is the Sentinel Island Lighthouse, just north of Juneau, Alaska. It is powered by solar PVs.
The reason this is remarkable is not merely that it is an example of solar power in Alaska, but that it is a piece of important safety equipment, maintained by the US Coastguard. Mariners, operating ships with valuable cargoes, depend on the light being visible from twenty miles, in clear weather. As a remote lighthouse, it cannot be powered by the grid, and it cannot be accessed in all weather. Solar was chosen for reliability, in Alaska, where winter days get very short.
